Increase in compensation limits for business property and insurance premiums in Ukraine’s war risk program
The Ukrainian government has expanded its war risk insurance program, raising both compensation for damaged property and support for insurance premiums. The reforms aim to provide stronger financial protection for businesses operating in frontline regions and across the country.
The main updates include:
higher compensation for damaged property – maximum payouts for business property damaged or destroyed in frontline areas have increased from 10 million UAH to 30 million UAH. The previous rule that reduced compensation by amounts already received through grants or other state support has been removed, allowing full recovery of losses. Businesses that have already submitted claims can update them by May 1, 2026, including reporting higher losses or adding other eligible property.
increased support for insurance premiums – compensation for insurance premiums has been raised from 1 million UAH to 3 million UAH. Businesses become eligible for compensation 31 days after signing an insurance policy, with payments adjusted proportionally if premiums are paid in installments.
program uptake and impact – since the program’s launch on January 1, 2026, 52 claims have been submitted for property damage, with 20 approved, totalling 166.5 million UAH. Additionally, 21 claims have been filed for insurance premium compensation, reflecting growing business engagement with the program.
