Opening of Ukraine’s advanced AI defence center
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has announced the launch of the Defense AI Center of Excellence “A1 center”, the first dedicated competence centre focused on integrating artificial intelligence to help the military make decisions, control weapons and drones, and manage operations more effectively.
The A1 center will become part of a broader network of specialised technology units being established within the Ministry across key domains such as drones, artillery, and other weapon systems.
The center’s core areas of focus will include battlefield data analysis, prediction of enemy actions, development of autonomous systems, and creation of advanced command and control tools. The initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of AI-driven solutions by leveraging real frontline experience and rapidly transforming it into operational capabilities.
In parallel, the Ministry is actively recruiting specialists and inviting proposals for the development of AI-based defence solutions. The initiative reflects a growing institutional effort to attract technical talent and strengthen the role of data, software, and automation in modern warfare.
The launch of the A1 center highlights a broader trend toward the institutionalisation of AI within defence structures, aiming to enhance decision-making speed, operational efficiency, and technological adaptability in combat environments.
