Ukraine reforms weapon codification and speeds up military procurement
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has updated three government resolutions to streamline the codification of weapons and military equipment, aiming to speed up the delivery of advanced technologies to the armed forces and enhance operational readiness. The reforms reduce bureaucratic delays, allowing manufacturers and the Ministry to move more quickly from development to deployment.
The key changes include:
independent approval of technical specifications – manufacturers can now approve product specifications themselves, while the Ministry of Defense conducts procurement based on these technical requirements for the equipment. This eliminates the previous requirement to confirm immediate operational needs, allowing faster registration and deployment of new systems.
simplified ammunition testing procedures – redundant demonstrations have been removed, accelerating the codification and supply of ammunition. Producers can move from development to battlefield delivery more efficiently, ensuring that Ukrainian forces receive critical munitions without unnecessary delays.
streamlined processes for tactical unmanned and electronic warfare systems – only a manufacturer’s quality certificate is required for codification, removing additional state inspections while maintaining full producer responsibility for quality. Procurement of explosive materials has also been simplified, making it faster and easier for manufacturers to produce ammunition and maintain readiness of the armed forces.
