Aequo Top Ranked by Legal 500 2016
Aequo has been top ranked in its key practices – Banking, Finance and Capital Markets, Commercial, Corporate and M&A and highly recommended in Dispute Resolution, Energy, Intellectual Property and Tax according to the recently released research for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) by Legal 500 2016. Three practices either improved or completely new this year. Once again Aequo’s partners Denis Lysenko, Anna Babych, Yulia Kyrpa, Oleksandr Mamunya gain recognition as leading individuals in their key practice areas.
For the second year in a row, Aequo is the first tier firm in Banking, Finance and Capital Markets. According to the researchers. the team at ‘go-to firm’ Aequo is ‘proactive, diligent, practical and committed to its clients’. ‘Strong negotiator’ Yulia Kyrpa, head of banking and finance, has ‘deep understanding of banking law’. She and Denys Kulgavyi advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on a $36m loan to Interdon. Capital markets partner Anna Babych and the ‘technically strong’ Maryna Fedorenko are also highly recommended.
Commercial, Corporate and M&A practice group is also top ranked (Tier 1). The team at Aequo ‘offers fresh new thinking’; ‘although young, it is a top-tier law firm’. The directory recommends Denis Lysenko and Anna Babych, who ‘impressive experience and is up for any challenge’.
Aequo’s Dispute Resolution team is praised for its ‘fantastic service and industry knowledge’. Pavlo Byelousov acted with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP in BTA Bank v Mukhtar Ablyazov, advising KPMG as receivers in relation to a $6bn fraud and damages claim.
According to the research, young firm Aequo has attracted a strong client base in the Energy sector. Denis Lysenko and the ‘responsive, creative’ Anna Babych are recommended.
The directory also highly recommends Aequo’s Intellectual Property practice group, which is ‘good value for money, and able to adopt Western standards’. Oleksandr Mamunya leads the team, which counts DuPont and Samsung Electronics among its clients. He represented Pioneer Hi-Bred in trade mark infringement proceedings.
